And a special Thanks To Mike Filsaime and Frank Kern for your support and help in getting the word out about Macy!

There are many other families and children affected by cancer.  If you can touch one life by lending a hand, you can help change the world one family and one child at a time.  You can visit the website of a little girl that was in the hospital with Macy and read about her condition at ChaseHaydu.com

Macy Johns Hodgkins Disease Cancer

UPDATE

05/14/2009 - I have an update on Macy's condition. Though the news was not great, there is always a bright side to everything.

Macy's treatments have been 78% effective. This means that there is still 22% of the cancer remaining. Not the news we were looking for but still encouraging that 78% of the size is gone.

Going forward Macy will undergo 14 days straight having radiation treatments. The under lying good news here is her doctor said that the odds of the cancer relapsing with only having Chemo is greater than the cases to where the patient has radiation. The patients that go through successful radiation are less likely to have a relapse than if only treated with Chemo.

05/09/2009 - Macy, her Mom and Dad as well as the rest of the family have waited all week to hear the results of the tests.  Macy went to her appointment yesterday and found that all of the results were not yet in and will most likely be another week before she hears the results.  The Dr. did say he is happy with what he is seeing.  However, the results of the test are what we are really wanting to hear.

Macy had her test on Friday May 1st and we are hoping to get the results on May 8th. This is the test that will let us know that the cancer is gone. Please keep Macy and her parents in your prayers. This week is going to pass by slow as we approach Friday.

07/04/2009 - I talked with Macy's mother today and they have just returned from the Disney Dream Vacation for children with cancer.  They had a great time at Disney and she sent me a picture to post here for everyone to see how Macy is doing.

 DONATIONS METER

Dear Friend,

Macy Johns is currently undergoing treatment for Hodgkin's Disease.  Macy is a good kid and she deserves the best out of life.  I can not imagine what she and her parents must be going through.  The stress of having cancer is enough without having to worry about how they will pay for the treatments.  The cost of the treatments as well as the other medical expenses are very steep. Unfortunately, Macy does not have the insurance coverage required to cover the necessary treatments. Her dad was recently laid off of work paying for groceries and medical insurance is not possible.  Macy and her family need help with these unexpected expenses.  Please find it in your heart to make a donation to help Macy afford these necessary treatments.

MMy name is William Surrency you may know me as Will Surren online.  Macy Johns is my 2nd cousin and she is the same age as my oldest son Matthew.  It breaks my heart to know that Macy is suffering with this disease and I want to do everything I can to help.  This is why I created this website.  I am confident that there are many people just like you that are willing to help a child in need.  Monetary donations are greatly needed to help Macy get the treatment she needs.  Any size donation will help and your monetary support and prayers are greatly appreciated.  If you are unable to make monetary donations, you may have items you can donate for the charity yard sales over the next few months.

I have set up a special account at VyStar Credit Union in Jacksonville Florida for donations.  I have also linked a special Paypal account to the Vystar account.  If you would rather send donations rather than using Paypal, you can mail a check or money order using the following information..

What Is Hodgkin's Disease

Hodgkin's lymphoma, also known as Hodgkin's disease, is a type of lymphoma (cancer originating from a type of white blood cells called lymphocytes). It was named after Thomas Hodgkin, who first described abnormalities in the lymph system in 1832.[1]

Hodgkin's lymphoma is characterized by the orderly spread of disease from one lymph node group to another, and by the development of systemic symptoms with advanced disease. The disease is characterized by the presence of Reed-Sternberg cells (RS cells) on microscopic examination. Hodgkin lymphoma was one of the first cancers which could be cured using radiation therapy and, later, it was one of the first to be cured by combination chemotherapy.

The disease occurrence shows two peaks: the first in young adulthood (age 15–35) and the second in those over 55 years old. The survival rate is generally 90% or higher when the disease is detected during early stages, making it one of the more curable forms of cancer.[2] Later-stage cancers, though, continue to show a significantly worse prognosis, underscoring the need to seek treatment as early as possible.[3]

Most patients who are able to be successfully treated (and thus enter remission,) generally go on and live long and normal lives, due to a remission success rate of 90% to 95%.more
